Zanzibar and Pemba

Zanzibar beach

Relax and unwind in a beach hut on the coast of Zanzibar.

Visit the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba.

For visitors to Tanzania, the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba offer the right ingredients for a memorable beach vacation – palm-fringed sandy beaches, pristine coral reefs, stylish lodging, Swahili culture, superb cuisine and activities to suit all interests.

We have suggested a number of superb beach resorts for you to consider. However, we are also happy to work with your accommodation preferences.

Zanzibar Island:

Zanzibar Island (or Unguja) is the largest of the Indian Ocean islands lying close to mainland Tanzania. The island is an exotic location for a relaxing break. Adding a stay on Zanzibar to your Tanzania tour will provide a complete change of pace before or after visiting other places in Tanzania.

Zanzibar is surrounded by pristine coral reefs, calm water, natural lagoons, mangrove swamps and beautiful sandy beaches. Marine conservation projects are much in evidence.

Zanzibar Vacation Activities:

Snorkeling, diving, walking, cycling, boating, exploring historic Stone Town, island hopping, or just relaxing on the beach.

Visit Stone Town – a ‘UNESCO World Heritage Site’ of historical labyrinths of Arabian style, crooked alleyways, old mansions, palaces and bazaars. The Swahilli culture is much in evidence as you explore the town.

Enjoy a boat trip to visit Prison Island – home to giant tortoises, with excellent views of Zanzibar town, fine bathing and snorkeling.

Take a spice tour – an interesting and visually stimulating experience that explores the origins of the spice trade up to the present day.

Visit Jozani Forest – enjoy a guided walk into the indigenous rain forest which is home to many wildlife species, including the rare red colobus monkey.

Visit Kizimkazi – where bottlenose and spinner dolphins are regular guests.

Zanzibar weddings and honeymoons:

With our resort partners, we are happy to assist in arranging weddings and honeymoons in Zanzibar.

Pemba Island:

Pemba Island has remained largely untouched by tourism until recently. As a result, the infrastructure is less developed than on Zanzibar.

Visitors are drawn to Pemba to experience the spectacular diving, beautiful beaches and natural forests.

An island vacation can be added to all safari and Kilimanjaro itineraries. Just ask!
